WsM Pier ablaze
And what a show it was, waking on Monday morning to see the smoke rising and walking down later to see the mass of tangled metal that once was the pavilion. If you have seen the news this week, pretty well anywhere in the world, you’ll know that the end of The Grand Pier has burned down – and only just after a £1million refurbishment.
Yet within the week (Thursday), the Grand Pier is open again. Ok, so you can’t walk to the end but the stalls landside are open and there will be attractions on the pier soon – though the biggest attraction seems to be the wreckage at the end.
After such a sad start to the week this determination to get back to business was really very heartening – WsM needs its pier but more than that it needs people dedicated to getting things done like the current owners.
